Mustang Readers' use their passion for reading and positive peer influence:

• As committee members, they read YRCA (Young Readers' Choice Award) books and identify specific character traits
• Each spring, students vote for YRCA books and nominate new titles for the next year
• Members take field trips to Barnes and Noble and other major bookstores to select books for the school library collection from the newest titles available
• Students promote YRCA and newly selected books through book talks
• Mustang Readers also help organize Dr. Seuss events for elementary students

"This program creates a buzz in our school about books and gets kids excited to read in a way that classroom instruction cannot," stated one of Melba High School's most respected English teachers, Erin Gatfield.
